How a Wisconsin Working-Class Childhood Shaped My Vision for Economic Justice
Read on SubstackLet’s not forget how we got here. Too many Americans are suffering economically, and instead of addressing the real causes, some of our leaders have chosen to point fingers. They have blamed immigrants. They have blamed single parents working full-time just to get by. They have told working people, “THAT’S who’s making you poor.” But the truth is this: working people are struggling because our labor has been undervalued and our paychecks chipped away by policy choices that benefit the few at the expense of the many. Our democracy and our rights cannot truly be secure until hardworking people are economically secure. That’s why I’m in this race. Because I believe we deserve a future that’s about more than just surviving paycheck to paycheck. Dr. King believed in a future where people of all races, religions, and backgrounds could come together to build a better America that rewards hard work and doesn’t funnel its rewards to those who already have plenty. That’s the vision I’m fighting for.
